The Blue Stare is a mixed media composition on canvas from the Twiggy series. The basis is the iconic 1966 photograph of 16-year-old Twiggy (Dame Lesley Lawson) by Barry Lategan.

The image is mirrored, printed, and transferred onto canvas. Roughly torn paper gives the work a weathered, poster-like appearance.

The background consists of multiple layers of acrylic paint, with paint added, removed, or worked over for added depth and texture. The portrait is finished with pencil, pastels, and oil paint. Dark lines and scars across the left side of the portrait enhance The Stare and create a powerful visual impact.
