Inspired by the fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm, this portrait depicts Rosamund in Dornröschen (Sleeping Beauty).

Sleeping Beauty sleeps for a hundred years surrounded by a rosebush that forms a thick, thorny wall.

In the background, we see a green forest that transitions semi-transparently into the portrait. Sleeping Beauty and the forest form a unity, pierced by a giant rose stem. The rose stem and a red rose petal cover the woman’s face.

The original portrait of dancer Estelle Reed was taken by the Dutch photographer Paul Citroen in 1931.

The rose stem and the rose petal are vintage images from a French edition of the magazine Realities from the 1970s.

Sleeping Beauty is a mixed media composition on canvas featuring transfer collage, paper collage, and oil paint.

Signed and supplied with a certificate of authenticity.
