By Marian Williams - Et moi, et moi, et moi
From the exhibition 'Et moi, et moi, et moi', in which three female artists present their personal mythologies in search of the key to their true essence. The story is about Marian Williams' family and her roots in Rotterdam.
‘Rotterdam et moi 1’ is a mixed media composition on canvas; transfer collage finished with paper collage, oil paint, pastels, and marker.
The composition shows two illustrations, each torn in half with ragged edges.
The top image shows the upper part of the sculpture ‘The Destroyed City’ by Ossip Zadkine. This bronze monument in Rotterdam commemorates the German bombing of May 14, 1940, which destroyed the medieval city center.
The bottom part depicts a child running in the fields.
Both figures lend dynamism and movement to the work. The figurative approach places reality alongside fantasy and captures a moment of liberating joy and defiance of gravity.
It invites the viewer to embrace the unexpected and challenges them regarding form and space.
Signed and delivered with a certificate of authenticity.
