Mixed media on 120 x 120 cm canvas, collage transfer and paint, acrylic paint, glue, paper, ink, pen, pastel, and felt-tip pens. The large-scale format and the collage transfer technique give the work a weathered appearance reminiscent of a vintage billboard.
The compositions are enlarged, mirrored, printed, and transferred onto the canvas, after which they are finished with pastels and paint. Each work in this series is a unique original, in which "pop art" techniques and means of reproduction are applied in a characteristic way. Commissioned works are also possible.
This work is part of the Retro Fantastic series, presented in 2019 during a group exhibition at the Dutch Design Hotel Artemis in Amsterdam. The theme: the wonderful 1950s and 60s, a time when the future seemed promising. From today's perspective, the artist looks back on the rise of capitalism and consumerism with both a nostalgic and critical eye.
In this series, images from the “good old days” are placed against a different reality. These are stories full of hope and glory, in which humanity conquered space, science was the future, bombs were power games, and plastic was seen as fantastic.
